Anchor Bay Great Ships Replicas by Harbour Lights

USCGC Taney

The USCGC Taney WPG/WHEC 37 served the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy in two different oceans and in different capacities during her 50 year career. Commissioned in 1936 as the Roger B. Taney, she began service with the Coast Guard out of Honolulu, HI, conducting patrols and assisting with the colonization of several of South Pacific islands.  In 1937, her name was shortened to just TANEY.  Her antiaircraft guns were manned and operated on the morning of 7 December 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and at her decommissioning in 1986, she was the last surviving ship from that infamous day.

In 1941 she was transferred to the Navy and served in both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans.  TANEY performed patrol and escort duties, and after an extensive refit, operated as a command ship.  After the conclusion of WW II, TANEY was refitted as a patrol cutter and spent the next part of her career performing weather station patrols, reporting on meteorligical conditions in first the Pacific, and later, Atlantic Oceans.

TANEY was decommissioned in 1986 by the Coast Guard, and given to the City of Baltimore for service as a museum ship, where she remains to this day.  An extensive history of USCGC Taney can be found on the US Coast Guard website by clicking on this link - http://www.uscg.mil/history/webcutters/Taney_1936.asp

The Anchor Bay Great Ships Replicas of USCGC Taney were released in  September of 2007.  This was an edition of only 750 pieces, with the first 600 of each sold as a matched set.  A number of individual units remain, may be gone soon.  Don't delay if you are interested in owning one or both of these terrific replicas!
